The calculator above uses these variables to produce a ballpark estimate. Any formal quote will refine each of them based on the specifics of your monument.
A simple memorial plaque is by far the most economical option, while full single and double monuments sit at the top of the range. Ledgers and headstone-and-base designs fall in between.
Granite is priced in tiers. Standard granites such as noble grey, harcourt, steel grey and grandee are the most affordable. Premium granites like jet black, ruby red, blue pearl and balmoral red cost more.
Custom shapes (heart, book, tear), carved details and dual-tone designs all add to the base cost. Larger monuments naturally use more stone and take longer to produce.
Cut-in natural lettering is the most economical and requires no maintenance. Paint fill adds a modest cost. Gold leaf is the premium finish and adds meaningfully to the price.
Ceramic photographs, vases, candle boxes and other extras all add to the base cost.
Different Sydney cemeteries and sections have different rules on materials, dimensions and permit fees. These are usually passed through at cost and vary by cemetery.
The ranges below are indicative and assume standard granite and common design. Custom shapes, premium granites, gold leaf and add-ons will move you toward the upper end.
